Matthew Lynn

Born on a snowy Monday morning in November, with a ruptured diaphragm, rushed to Children’s Hospital for surgery, after 2 hours and 20 minutes of surgery he had a 50/50 chance of living.... We were told that if he got out of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), he would need to be in an intermediate nursery for a minimum of 2 weeks. Five days later we brought Matthew home.

The doctor told us that Matthew would most likely be mentally & physically handicapped.

Diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome in 1989.... Matthew learned to control both the physical and verbal ticks that had troubled him during his early years, without the help of medication. People who met Matthew after 1997 had no idea that he had Tourettes. I always thought part of his purpose in life would be to encourage other kids who struggle with Tourettes.

Things Matthew said he wanted to be when he grew up included: zookeeper, artist, pilot, missionary. He said if he could do anything he wanted to, he would like to design robots for NASA.

He graduated in 2002 and wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with his life so he started working at Country Kitchen, first as a dishwasher, then working his way up to cook.

The summer of 2004 - He finally decided he wanted to go into graphic design and had enrolled in the graphic design program at Dakota County Technical College. October 10,  2004 he was on his way home after dropping off a film to be developed for his photography class.

Killed by a drunk driver.
